Lions 4 Kids update - August 24

Hello everyone!

Our volunteers are SO AWESOME!  Lions 4 Kids has been open double the normal hours during August.  Our facility has been kept stocked and clean by a few amazing and dedicated people and it 's been such a gift to Our Kids!  In July we served a total of 185 kids.  Just during the week of August 16-23 we clothed 102 and expect to have outfitted about 300 before the end of the month, many of them new referrals just this month.  Stunning numbers of kids and a FABULOUS effort from our volunteers.  THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

MOVIE NIGHT!!

Next Friday, August 29th - Rainier View Park in Sumner.  We are showing the movie classic "E.T. - the Extra Terrestrial" on the big inflatable screen, sponsored by KAS Entertainment (www.outdoorsummermovies.com).  This lovely park is located behind the old QFC store on Parker Road between Main Street and Meade-McCumber.  Activities start at 6 p.m., with the movie showing at dusk. There is playground equipment for the kids to play on before the movie, and our friends Glitterbug and Beep-Beep from Clownbuggie Entertainment will be on hand to entertain everyone.  There will be some great raffle prizes available, including a new bike!  Admission is FREE!

Sales of food concessions will benefit Lions 4 Kids House, and donations of new socks and underwear for school-age children up to age 18 (we respectfully request boxers for boys over size 12 and bikinis or hipsters for girls; all the kids seem to like the no-show socks best this season), gently-used clothing, personal care items including granulated laundry soap, and of course cash, checks and gift cards will be much appreciated.  We also take CREDIT CARDS!!

Join us for a fun evening of family entertainment before the kids start back to school and all the activities start up again!  Thank you for your support!   We could not do what we do without YOU!!

Next up:  BONNEY LAKE DAYS:

Many thanks to David Wells and ALL the City of Bonney Lake staff, police and East Pierce Fire personnel that teamed up to make this event happen.  LOTS of work went on before and after the event as well as behind the scenes during the activities to make for a fun and safe family event.  You all ROCK!

The dunk tank was great entertainment and we owe a great debt of thanks to all of our dunkees who willingly Took the Plunge to benefit Lions programs: Pete Esser, Bonney Lake High School basketball coach; Riley Baltazar, Matt DeGoede, Josh Zahnow, all Bonney Lake High School basketball players; Jessie Thomson, owner of Play-Dayz;

Mayor Neil Johnson; Jim Bouchard, president of the Bonney Lake Chamber; 9-year old Kaylan Peters, daughter of Lisa Peters of Home Depot; Sue Hilberg, Director of the Bonney Lake Sr. Center; Theresa McBride, advertising specialist from the Courier-Herald; Sumner School District Superintendent Gil Mendoza; Drs. Michelle Marconi and John Huynh of Mountain View Chiropractic

Sue McCammon (aka Glitterbug) from Clownbuggie Entertainment; Dr. Alta Mahan, associate at Henschell Chiropractic;  Pastor Stew Bowen, Director of the Bonney Lake and Bread of Life Food Banks, Robert Blest,President of the Bonney Lake Kiwanis, Marilee Hill Anderson, Director of the STARR Project and homeless services for Sumner School District and her 10-year old son Joel; Lexie Miller, Tim Bounting, and Kelly's son in law all family members of Kelly Bounting, Massage therapist at Henschell Chiropractic.  I am missing the names of a couple basketball players who were last-minute stand-ins; I apologize and do thank you for your service!  (Send me your names, I want to be sure to acknowledge you next time!)

Both Tim Bounting and Pastor Stew had plenty of family on hand to take shots at their beloved "sitting ducks" (and who were pretty good shots!) and Tim's wife even sent money via messenger for all of our target shooters to take "'one extra shot" at her beloved!; Dr. Alta had the patients lined up to put her in the tank (just how badly do you work over your patients, Dr. Alta???); Mayor Johnson was a favorite of his daughter's baseball team (and we know how badly you work them over as their coach, Mr. Mayor, to have brought them so far in their championship year!).

I'd like to thank Dr. Alta Mahan, Kelly Bounting, Jessie Thompson and Shane Patrick for helping recruit dunkees.  Your help was invaluable!

To Dana, Mary and your team from the City of Bonney Lake who kept our tank filled and "refreshing" - many thanks!

And to those who came by to dunk our Hot Seat Volunteers, THANK YOU!

EXTREME MAKEOVER: COMMUNITY EDITION:

WOW!!!   At our first work party on Saturday, August 23rd from 9-1, our wonderful and hard working volunteers made short work of 90% of the interior walls in our main structure, and half the outbuildings are gone!  It was amazing to watch so much progress in a short time!  They filled a 30 cubic yard dumpster and we're ready for the next one!

Many thanks to:
Deputy Mayor Dan Swatman, Councilmember Jim Rackley,  Sherry and Bob Leistiko, Corey McCammon, our general contractor of A.D.I. Construction with his wonderful "big boy toy" tractor, Bryan Long, our plumber Karl Emig from Everlast Plumbing.

There were some logistical issues resolved handily for this first day which were solved by Jennie Sage, David Wells, and Chuck Heistumann from Cascade Towing.  Alfy's Pizza donated our lunch, thank you Cindy and Becca!

We expect to apply for our building permits this week so that when all the demolition is complete we can begin the transformation of our wonderful new facility!

We hope to see you at the MOVIE NIGHT on Friday!  It hardly seems possible that three generations of families are enjoying this movie.  My kids were 5 and 8 when it first appeared, and now they are old enough to have their own kids of an age to enjoy it.  How'd all these kids get so old and I didn't????

Have a safe and wonderful Labor Day weekend.

From me and from ALL the children we serve, heartfelt and deepest thanks for your support. We simply could not do what we do without you.  Thank you.  Carol
